Common use
Cycrin is used in treatment of irregular or absent menstrual periods, or abnormal uterine bleeding. Also it can be used to descreased the risk of endomentrial hyperplasia while taking estrogens. It active component medroxyprogesterone is progestin. Progestin is a female hormone that regulates ovulation and menstrual periods. Also it can be used to prevent overgrowth in the lining of uterus in postmenopausal women in estrogen replacement therapy.
Dosage and directions
Take Cycin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually given for a few days in a row each month. You may need to start taking the medicine on a certain day of your menstrual cycle. Follow all doctors instructions. Regularly exam your breast for lumps. The medication can cause unusual results of certain medical tests.
Precautions
Avoid smoking while taking Cycrin. Smoking increased you risk of blood clots greatly.
Contraindications
You should not use Cycrin if you are pregnant or have a hormone related cancer (uterine or breast cancer), liver disease, abnormal undiagnosed vaginal bleeding.
You may need dose adjusment if you have the following conditions:heart disease, congestive heart failure, recent stroke or heart attack, high blood pressure, high cholesterol o triglycerides, severe pelvic pain, recent miscarriage or abortion, epilepsy, low blood levels of calcium, asthma, lupus, diabetes, migraine headache, a thyroid disorder, kidney disease.
Possible side effects
Besides allergic reactions such as hives, swelling of your face, lips, tongue and throat, difficulty breathing, you can experience the following serious side effects: sudden headache, cough, numbness or weakness, especially of one side of the body, confusion, problems with vision, speech, balance, chest pain or heavy feeling, wheezing, rapid breathing, fast heart rate, pain or swelling of one or both legs, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweting, general ill feeling, vaginal bleeding, if you have already had menopause, a breast lumps, symptoms of depression such as sleep problems, dizziness, mood changes, headache , fever, swelling of your hands, ankles or feet, jaundice.
Less serious side effects may include skin color changes, vaginal itching or discharge, mild itching or skin rash, increased acne, hair growth, loss of scalp hair, insomnia, changes in appetite and weight, mild stomach pain, bloating, nausea.
Drug interaction
Tell your doctor about all your prescribed and not prescribed medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products you my use.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Symptoms of Cycrin overdose are stomach pain, breast tenderness, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, vaginal bleeding.
Storage
Store Cycrin at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
